, every time i go back, the city really looks like it's recovering, this is a huge black eye, the world is watching, all of a sudden in the middle of the biggest game of the year, the biggest sporting game of the year, the power goes out and the momentum of the game changes. this is not good for the city. i love the city. i'm just being honest, mark? >> no. and we've had an incredible week here. it has been one incredible week this city has been looking forward to since the recovery from carekatrina. they wanted the people to come back, it's been a festive atmosphere throughout. you have to wonder, where will this go. the aging infrastructure of this facility itself, it's been through massive renovations since katrina, we damaged it, remember the rooftop damage we saw here. a lot of renovation in the stadium, and now the questions will be asked, not necessarily about the city but the facility isself. and we're waiting to here, like everybody else why this happened. why during the second half of the biggest game of the year, why did the lights go out here at the superdome. >> mark, stand

consumers are actually city police. the nydp's budget this year $4.5 million. not all of that goes to weapons but millions do. not only does that improve gun maker's bottom line it also gives them a very powerful marketing tool, the prestige that coming with arming officers. gun companies have designed entire marketing campaigns around the idea that every day citizens can be just like cops if they have the same guns that cops do. some ads even imply that if you have these guns you won't even need the police like this new spot for glock. sounded like a gunshot. teresa garcia is in midland city with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. you know, the officials here are telling us they decided to move in that fbi hostage rescue team after the negotiations started deteriorating with that kidnapper. so they basically got that team ready and made a major distraction. what they did was throw in some flash bang devices. those give off a really blinding, bright light and a disorienting loud noise. fbi agents shook hands and patted each others' backs shortly after storming an underground bunker to save the 5-year-old held hostage for seven days. the boy named ethan has been reunited with his family at a local hospital and is said to be doing well. >> he's laughing, joking, playing, eating. the things that you would expect a normal 5 to 6-year-old young man to do. >> reporter: the suspect, 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes, is dead. officials say they made the decision to raid the bunker after dykes began pacing and holding his gun. >> at this point, fbi agents fearing the child was in imminent danger entered the bunker an

. >> reporter: relief in the small community of midland city, alabama, following the dramatic rescue of a 5-year-old boy held captive for seven days in an underground bunker. late monday afternoon the words the tightly knit community had been waiting to hear. >> at 3:12 this afternoon, fbi agents safely recovered the child who has been held hostage for nearly a week. >> reporter: police say the boy was being held captive by this 65-year-old after dike boarded a stopped school bus last week, shot and killed driver charles poland and abducted the child. held for nearly a week in an underground bunker beneath dike's property, the fbi said negotiations deteriorated within the last 24 hours and that dike was observed holding a gun. >> at this point, fbi agents fearing the child was in imminent danger entered the bunker and rescued the child. >> reporter: nbc news learned a diversion airy device was used and the hostage rescue team endered through a door at the top of the bunker. >> it was by the grace of god, you know, he's okay. and that was the mission of every man and woman on this compound. >> re
